Postharvest Handling of Vegetables and Fruits in Mbale District, Bugisu Subregion, Uganda
Gimuguni Nabaasa Lillian

Introduction

This project addresses challenges faced by women farmers and vendors in Bugisu related to poor post-harvest handling of horticultural crops such as vegetables, pineapples, and mangoes. Inadequate practices like roadside drying lead to spoilage, contamination, and reduced marketability. Losses are estimated at 30–50% annually, contributing to food insecurity and low incomes. The project aims to modernize post-harvest handling through training, technology adoption, and infrastructure improvement.
